Tonight between 5-6:30pm the classrooms will be open for you to visit with your child as your guide. This is an opportunity to see what your child has been learning about at school.
The DUCKS will also be running a Sausage Sizzle and selling some popcorn on the night too – first come, first served. We look forward to seeing you here.
Pyjama Day
Our Student Council has organised a Pyjama Day to raise funds for Telethon Kids. Students may wear their pyjamas on Tuesday 21st September (last Tuesday of term) and bring a gold coin donation. This will be the last day before the Year 6s go on camp.
Green Lab Grant and Planting Day
On Tuesday 31st the Student Council worked with the Pre-primary students and the City of South Perth (Paul Reed and Jennifer Grainger) to replant the area between the office and the car park.
While it was a bit of a wet day, we were able to plant out most of the area. Heather Johnstone, representing the Millennium Kids’ Green Lab project, presented the Student Council with a grant of $500, which they intend to use on informing the community about the local birdlife through signs on the music wall to help people identify the birds they see here and to promote the protection of our birds. FYI - our willy wag tail has built its nest in the tree in the courtyard outside the library again this year.

Planning for 2022
It's that time of year again when we start to look at how many students we will have in 2022 and to plan to staff the school to meet those needs. You may complete one form (see the link below) for your family. However, if you have differing plans for each of your children currently attending our school (excluding the Year 6s), please complete separate forms for each. Please return these forms to the school by Friday 17th September.
If you need to collect your child for an appointment during the day, please let your class teacher know via email or SeeSaw and then collect a yellow slip from the office when you arrive before going to the classroom. The yellow slip is to be given to the class teacher. It ensures we have a record of your child leaving and also means that the office has confirmed that only authorised people collect children (i.e. it’s a safety precaution). We no longer collect your child for you as parents are allowed onsite during this COVID phase. If this changes due to COVID, we will let you know.
DUCKS campout
The annual DUCKS campout on the oval is scheduled for Friday 22nd October (end of Week 2 of Term 4). The event starts at 4:30pm on Friday and finishes at 8am (all packed up) on Saturday morning. This is the most popular event of the P&C calendar – all KPS fathers and their children are welcome. Mr Griffiths and Mr Powers will also be attending. See below, in the P&C section, for more details.
SZapp
Have you downloaded our SZapp? It is a simple way to receive important notifications from the school and to keep up-to-date. Did you know you can subscribe to specific groups, e.g. your child's class, simply by turning notifications on in the "Manage" tab? Another amazing and very helpful tool is the ability to sync the events on our School Events Calendar with your devices' calendar. This means you will never miss any events. Simply click on the "School Events Calendar" tile on the home page and then click on the green "Sync calendar" bar below the 'Coming Events' tags.

Father's Day Morning @ Vista Street
On Tuesday 31st August the students from Vista Street welcomed their dads into our Kindy! There was a buzz of excitement as the children proudly showed the dads around our classroom and shared some of their work. They enjoyed picnics outside, games of ten pin bowling, painting and crafts, exploration in our space station and planted some vegetables together to give to their dads for Father’s Day. Very special memories were made and we hope all the dads had a very Happy Father’s Day on Sunday the 5thof September!

Room 2’s Ideal World
Following on from the Book Week theme – Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds, we thought about what our Ideal World would be. We closed our eyes and visualised these worlds. We thought about what it looks like, smells like, sounds like and feels like. We thought about what it would be called and what would happen in our Ideal World. We drew these worlds and wrote about them. We then developed our word processing skills and typed our paragraphs. Which one of our Ideal Worlds would you like to visit?

Running Club
Running Club continues on Tuesday and Friday mornings on the oval between 8.00 – 8.30am. Our last run and breakfast for the term will be on Tuesday 21st September.
Circus
We have been doing circus skills in our PE lesson this week. Equipment will be in the UCA during the Parent Open Night, so come and see what your child can do.
The Japanese classroom has been busy over the term with Sao sensei and me assisting the students to write kanji calligraphy. This year’s kanji was chosen in honour of the Tokyo Olympics. Year 3-6 students wrote “東” higashi which means east, as Tokyo is an eastern capital. School winners, Meg Year 6, Amy Year 5, Amberlee Year 4 and Akira Year 3 are to be congratulated and have had their entries submitted to the State competition. Japanese club with Year 4 and sensei in second break on Fridays keeps us in love with Japan and we have enjoyed the Tanabata festival and associated wishes, the Olympic mascots with origami and this week will be rajio taisoo and exploring how Japanese children like to keep fit. Last week we were treated to a fabulous, engaging Taiko On Japanese drumming experience. Year 3-6 students saw taiko drums in a variety of sizes and differing taiko playing styles with synchronised movements, vocalisation and energy. Students were encouraged to pick up a set of bachi and use their Japanese language skills while beating the taiko. S1, S2, S3 and S4 are preparing to speak in an online meeting with our “Tomodachi” friends in Fujiwaradai Elementary School at the beginning of Term 4. If you have had the chance to come in to the school courtyard, you may have seen the beginnings of the Japanese garden. The design is a combination of the student designs. I am really thankful for the support of community families and staff who assisted with this project. Thank you to Alice’s family in Year 5 for their time and dedication on the planting day. We are not complete yet and so if you are interested in assisting on a weekend or after school, please send me an email Margo.Whittle1@education.wa.edu.au

DUCK’s DADS AND KIDS CAMP
It was such a popular (and quiet) attraction last year that the DUCKs Camp Silent DISCO is back! Don’t miss out, get your ticket now! Friday 22nd October from 4.30pm on the KPS oval
Come along and pitch a tent or swag with your kids. Show us your moves at the Silent Disco! BBQ dinner and breakfast included.
The kids always love this event, so lock it in the diary and we’ll see you there!!
$35 per family (regardless of how many children). This includes BBQ dinner and breakfast, morning coffee for dads, marshmallows and fun and games for the kids.
Should be a great night for both dads and kids!
Will be wrapped up by 8am Saturday morning, so the oval can be used for cricket and the kids can get off to weekend sport etc.
We're running the bookings through Trybooking to try and keep it nice and simple. It’s a flat rate per family - the different options on the booking site are just to give us an idea of numbers.
Although the DUCKs activities are aimed at encouraging Dads to get active in their kids' lives, we understand that there is not always a father figure available. As always DUCKs activities are also open to mums who would like to attend.
Due to Working with Children regulations for overnight events - this is an event for parents to attend with their children.
We have a wheely bin (orange lid) and a wool bale in the quadrangle where you can deposit containers, help the environment and fundraise for the school all at once. We hope, with sufficient support from everyone, to expand this program.
